Congress expels ex-MLA Abdullakutty for Pro-Modi remarks

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Monday removed AP Abdullakutty, former MP and MLA, from the party for reportedly calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘Gandhian.’

A press release issued by KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran said the action was being taken following ‘statements against the spirit of the party.’

The KPCC president said an explanation was sought from Abdullakutty but he ‘refused to budge from his stance.’  Abdullakutty had put up a Facebook post lauding the ‘development agenda’ of the PM.

He said in the letter that he had contested on his own merit and had never played ‘group politics.’ He said his stance was ‘what the new generation liked.’

Abdullakutty’s FB post had stated that the BJP’s win in the Lok Saba election was testimony to the popularity of the pro-people policies.

Abdullakutty, initially a CPM member, was expelled from the left party in 2009 for pro-Modi statements.
