Now complain against hate messages on Delhi govt's WhatsApp number

With an aim to tackle rumours that spread like wildfire on social media during the times of a big event, the Delhi government is considering issuing a WhatsApp number on which people can complain about hate messages being circulated.

The move comes in the wake of the riots that claimed 42 lives in northeast Delhi, sources said on Saturday (February 29).

They said the government will make an appeal to people to not forward any such text on the instant messaging application as making a thread of any material which causes enmity among communities is a crime.

“If anyone receives any such material, he can immediately make a complaint to Delhi government stating the name and number of the person who forwarded that message,” a source told PTI.
