Kapil Mishra crowdfunds ₹47.5 lakh to help riot-hit Hindu families in Delhi

BJP leader Kapil Mishra has raised ₹47.5 lakh via crowdfunding to held Hindu families who were affected in the riots in northeast Delhi earlier this week. Until Saturday (February 29) evening, a total of 2,857 people donated for the campaign being run on crowdfunding platform CrowdKash.com.


Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kapil Mishra has raised ₹47.5 lakh via crowdfunding to held Hindu families who were affected in the riots in northeast Delhi earlier this week.

Until Saturday (February 29) evening, a total of 2,857 people donated for the campaign being run on crowdfunding platform CrowdKash.com. The platform showed Mishra, a former MLA of the saffron party, had raised ₹47,50,523 in the first two days of his 15-day deadline for the campaign.

One can donate amounts as low as ₹5, however, some have chosen to donate amounts as high as ₹1 lakh. Two donors have chipped in a lakh rupees while two others have contributed ₹50,000 each. Seventeen others donated somewhere between ₹20,000 to ₹50,000 for the cause.

“The goal of this campaign is to identify families who are massively impacted due to the riots and help them with monetary assistance,” says the description posted on the campaign page.

It assures that funds will be transferred directly to the accounts of the impacted families and that due transparency will be maintained in the process.

Crowdfunding is essentially a concept where small amounts of money are sourced from a large number of people to fund a project or a venture. This is usually done through various online platforms dedicated for this purpose.

The concept of crowdfunding is popular among politicians. In the last few years, many political leaders have raised funds through crowdfunding, including 21 of Aam Aadmi Party candidates during the recently held Delhi assembly elections.

Violence had erupted in northeast Delhi following Mishra’s pro-CAA gathering at Maujpur Chowk in Jafarabad area on Sunday. Initially being seen as clashes between pro- and anti-CAA protesters, the riots soon turned communal, resulting in the death of at least 42 people.
