Tennis legend Roger Federer will become the first living person in Switzerland to be honoured with a silver coin minted with his face on it, announced The Federal Mint, Swiss Mint on Monday (December 3).

The Swiss Mint told that they will release a 20 Swiss francs commemorative coin in January next year to honour the French Open semifinalist.

“The Federal Mint Swissmint is honouring Roger Federer and, for the first time in its history, dedicating a Swiss commemorative coin to a living person,” Swiss Mint said in an official statement.

The 38-year-old announced the news on Twitter saying, “Thank you Switzerland and Swissmint for this incredible honour and privilege”.

Federer is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players having won 20 Grand Slams. In fact, his marathon with Novak Djokovic earlier this year in Wimbledon created a record for the longest ever final of the tournament.

This year is the 15th time that Federer has held the third position in the ATP rankings.
