Ravindra Jadeja eight wickets away from major milestone

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is just eight wickets away from becoming the second fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 wickets in Test cricket.

A cricketer known for his world-class fielding, batting and bowling, Jadeja played a crucial role for the team during the ICC World Cup 2019. With this achievement, Jadeja will also become the 10th Indian bowler to join the elite list.

Jadeja who was recently conferred with the Arjuna Award is currently ranked fifth in the ICC Test rankings and has a record of picking up 192 wickets in 41 matches at an average of 23.7.

After winning the T20 and ODI series against West Indies, the team is now eyeing to bag the Test series.

The forthcoming two-match Test series is the beginning of India’s quest for the World Test Championship.

The 30-year-old spinner with his impressive return in the format will be the second-fastest to reach such a position after Ravichandran Ashwin (see graphic).

India entered the tour of West Indies with the plan of having three seamers and two spinners, however, skipper Virat Kohli may change his mind and make the side spin-heavy with R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja all coming into play.

Ashwin always gets numbers against West Indies, Yadav performed well during the warm-up match and Jadeja as an all-rounder can again prove to be an asset for the team which makes the decision tough for Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri.

India will face West Indies in the first of two-match series starting on Thursday (August 22).
