Mumbai Indians’ repeated success at the IPL has been crafted by its players who perform extraordinarily well under varying circumstances. One such performer, Ishan Kishan, the Mumbai team’s highest run-getter of IPL 2020, is now ahead in the race to grab the wicketkeeper-batsman slot in the Indian team, said former chief selector of India senior men’s cricket squad MSK Prasad.
Prasad praised the Bihar boy for his versatility. He said that 22-year-old Kishan can be of immense value to Indian team because of his ability to bat at different positions and still garner runs.
“It’s really fantastic to see this pocket dynamite in action. He had a fantastic IPL. Batting at No. 4 and later opening the innings, shows his adaptability and temperament. His ability to switch gears as per the team’s requirements will definitely place him as a hot contender for the wicketkeeper-batsman slot for Team India in both T20s & ODIs in times to come,” Prasad was quoted as saying by TOI.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar had also backed Kishan for the role of wicketkeeper-batsman. Manjerekar had said that Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan will have to compete for the position which was successfully held for many years by M S Dhoni. Notably, Pant had played Under-19 World Cup 2016 under Kishan.
