Indian sprinter Dutee Chand broke the national record in 100-metre category at the National Athletics Championships in Ranchi on Friday (October 11).

She achieved the feat with a time of 11.22 seconds surpassing the previous national record of 11.26 seconds, jointly held by Dutee Chand and Rachita Mistry.

Chand also improved her personal best by 0.04 second which she registered at the Asian Athletics Championships in April this year.

The new timing takes Chand an inch closer to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualification mark for the 100m event set at 11.15 seconds.

During the recently concluded World Athletics Championships, Chand failed to qualify for the 100m semis as she finished 7th in the third sprint.

Earlier, Chand recorded 11.48 seconds in her heat which is way below her season-best of 11.26 seconds.

She failed to meet the qualifying standards for the world championships 2019, however, she made it to Doha after an invite from IAAF.
