Football team Mohun Bagan on Saturday (April 18) were declared winners of the I-League tournament as the remaining matches were cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Following the extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3, there was no possibility of competitive football being played in the country.

The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) executive committee on Saturday decided to take the call on the league, along with all other tournaments, to be held cancelled in view of the COVID-19 pandemic leaving the global sporting calendar disrupted.

Mohun Bagan were crowned the winners with four more rounds of the tournament yet to be played.

Even as there is no provision in place in the regulations for the extension of a season and cancellation of the remaining 41 matches, the AIFF still holds the power to take important decisions.

The I-League regulations says “cases of force majeure are to be decided by the I-League Committee, whose decision will be final.”
