India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal who is set to participate in the upcoming Denmark Open, on Tuesday (October 8) has asked for help from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in processing her and her trainer’s visa a week before the commencement of the tournament.

Saina tagged Jaishankar and tweeted, “I have an urgent request regarding visa for me and my trainer to Denmark. I have a tournament next week in Odense and we don’t have our visas processed yet. Our matches are starting on Tuesday next week. @DrSJaishankar @MEAQuery @DenmarkinIndia #danisadenmarkopen2019

To the former world number one’s request, Sanjeev Gupta, Special Secretary at Ministry of Home Affairs replied, “I’m working on it & in touch with @NSaina. Problem has come up due to a new instruction by @DenmarkinIndia requiring personal presence of applicant at @VFSGlobal I believe that Articles 10.1 & 10.2 of #Schengen Visa Code must be read together @parupallik @callmearsh @arun_saina.”

The world number eight badminton champ is set to face Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi in the tournament which will be played in Odense from October 15 to October 20.

Last year, Saina had finished runner-up, after losing to Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying in the final.

Other Indian shuttlers, world champion PV Sindhu, Parupalli Kashyap and B Sai Praneeth will also be seen in action and try to make their mark which they missed in the recently concluded Korea Open.
