'People misled in name of caste, religion'

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday said the sentiments of people are being misused for political gains and they are being misled in the name of religion and caste.

Priyanka shared a childhood experience of her visiting her father and then PM Rajiv Gandhi’s constituency with him.

“A woman started shouting at my father complaining about the poor condition of roads. My father answered her and when I asked him if he felt bad (about the attitude of the woman), he said no. He said it was the duty of the woman to ask and his to answer," Priyanka said.

She said 40 years later, people are still struggling for basic needs, but have stopped questioning the government.

'Where are your priorities?'
Priyanka demanded to know why ₹27,000 crore was spent on the Yashobhoomi (international convention centre), and ₹20,000 crore on the new Parliament building when the roads are in bad condition and people are grappling with unemployment and price rise.
