Tri-services bands to join I-Day celebrations to salute COVID warriors
For the first time, bands from the Army, Navy and Indian Air Force will display their performances across the country to mark Independence Day celebrations this year to salute doctors, para-medical staff, technicians and others who are at the forefront of the war against Covid-19. Performances of these bands will happen during the first half of August, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday by the Ministry of Defence.
The performances are intended as gestures of gratitude and appreciation of the nation towards the brave “Covid-19 warriors” who have been steadfastly fighting to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in the country even at the risk of their own lives. Police bands are also performing on this occasion.
The bands of Army, Navy and Police have performed at Porbandar, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Raipur, Amritsar, Guwahati, Allahabad and Kolkata so far. The Military and Police Bands will perform in the afternoon on Wednesday at Vishakhapatnam, Nagpur and Gwalior.
On August 7, military bands are scheduled to perform in Srinagar and Kolkata. Tri-services bands will be performing in Delhi thrice — once each at Red Fort, Rajpath and India Gate, respectively, on August 8, 9 and 12.
Military and police Bands will perform at Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Shimla and Almora on August 8. Performances at Chennai, Nasirabad, ANC (Andaman & Nicobar Command) Flag Point in Port Blair and Dandi in Gujarat will happen on August 9.
On August 12, these bands will perform at Imphal, Bhopal and Jhansi. The final performance of the series will be held on August 13 at Lucknow, Faizabad, Shilong, Madurai and Champaran. The selfless work of doctors, paramedics, other medical staff, sanitation workers and police in fighting Covid-19 has been appreciated on several occasions and Indian Air Force did flypasts on May 3 as a tribute to them. Lights of warships were flashed and defence bands had played on that occasion too.
