A 25-year-old teacher was arrested for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl student at her home in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, said the police on Monday (August 10). The incident had taken place on Sunday.

The accused, a teacher at a madrassa (an Islamic education institution), had been visiting the victim’s house to teach Arabic to her younger sister for the last 15 days. He had started teaching the victim since Saturday, said Khamardih police station house officer Mamta Sharma Ali.

He allegedly sexually assaulted the victim at her house on Sunday and escaped from there, the police officer said quoting the complaint lodged by the girl’s parents. The victim later narrated the incident to her parents, following which they approached the police, she said.

The accused was arrested and booked under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and other relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the officer said, adding that investigation is underway.
