Suspected ISIS operative nabbed in Delhi, was planning lone-wolf attack


A special cell of Delhi police arrested a suspected operative of ISIS who was planning an attack, after an exchange of fire at Dhaula Kuan area of the national capital late on Friday (August 21) night.

Reports said two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and a pistol were recovered from the possession of Abdul Yusuf Khan, the suspected operative, who hails from Uttar Pradesh.

Security has been beefed up in the national capital following the arrest and searches are underway at several locations.

“One ISIS operative was arrested with improvised explosive devices by our special cell after an exchange of fire at Dhaula Kuan,” ANI quoted Pramod Singh Kushwaha, the Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delhi Special Cell as saying.

The IEDs were found in a pressure cooker. Their weight and contents will be examined by National Security Guard(NSG) and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).

Police zeroed in on Khan after receiving a tip-off about his movement in the ridge area between Dhaula Kuan and Karol Bagh.

Khan had reportedly screened several areas in the national capital and was plotting an attack by himself. His arrest follows that of an ophthalmologist in Bengaluru, who was taken into custody for developing apps for ISIS.
