Former finance minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram was arrested in the INX media case, hours after he appeared at the Congress headquarters on Wednesday evening (August 21) after being reported missing.

CBI officials took him away from his residence in Delhi two hours after he returned after addressing the press conference. Earlier, when they were denied entry, some officials scaled the wall and entered the residence.

Chidambaram said neither he nor his son Karti were accused in the INX media case, and hoped that as against reports, he was seeking the protection of the law and not hiding from it, while preparing for his case.

“I’ve not been accused of any offence nor any one else incl any member of my family. There is no charge sheet filed by either ED or CBI before a competent court,” he said.

Earlier, the Supreme Court refused urgent listing of Chidambaram’s petition, seeking protection from arrest in the INX Media scam cases and posted the matter for Friday (August 23).

Soon after addressing the presser, he left the party headquarters, where it was reported that the CBI was waiting. Before leaving, he said he will hold his head high, and believe in the wisdom of the judges. He hoped that investigating agencies will also respect the law.

Television channels showed him going back to his residence in New Delhi and entering it, along with his lawyer-politician friends and Congress leaders Kapil Sibal and Abhimanyu Singhvi.
