Six properties of Dawood Ibrahim auctioned for ₹22.79 lakh

The Indian government’s auctioning of six out of the total seven properties of the nation’s most wanted Dawood Ibrahim fetched ₹22.79 lakh on Tuesday (November 11).

The virtual auction of the properties by the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Authority (SAFEMA) saw four bids being won by Supreme Court lawyer Bhupendra Bhardwaj and the rest two by Delhi-based advocate Ajay Shrivastav.

“The intent of the law is to not allow offenders under SAFEMA and narcotic offences enjoy the fruits of illegally gotten money,” reports quoted SAFEMA Additional Commissioner RN D’Souza as saying.

Properties won by Bharadwaj include 27 gunthas land with a reserve price of ₹2,05,800, 29.30 gunthas (₹2,23,300), 20 gunthas (₹1,52,500) and 18 gunthas (₹1,38,000) while those by Shrivastav include 24.90 gunthas (reserve price ₹1,89,800) for ₹4,30,000 and 27 gunthas (reserve price ₹5,35,800) for ₹11,20,000.

Bharadwaj is planning to make anti-terrorism centres in the properties that he has bought, according to a report. Shrivastav said he will be building a Sanatam Siksha Mandir that’d impart religious education.

Besides the six properties, SAFEMA had to withdraw the property of Dawood at Ratnagiri from the auction over the reported need for revaluation. Another property, belonging to Dawood’s aide Iqbal Mirchi, also could not be sold as bidders felt it was overpriced.
