Ruling govt creating hate in country: Rahul on SC's remark on Nupur Sharma

Commenting on the Supreme Court’s observation slamming Nupur Sharma for her “disturbing” Prophet remark, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said the atmosphere of anger and hate in the country is created by the Union government. It is not done by one person alone, he said.

Talking to the media in Wayanad in Kerala, Rahul said that the Supreme Court has said this but the atmosphere in the country has been created by the ruling government.

“It is not the person who made this statement,” he said referring to Nupur Sharma. “It is prime minister, home minister, the BJP and RSS who have created this environment in the country. This environment of anger and this environment of hatred,” he said, adding that this is against the interest of India and our people.

Earlier in the day, the apex court said Nupur Sharma’s “irresponsible statements set the entire country on fire”. The court also said that her remarks against Prophet Muhammad were made either for “cheap publicity, a political agenda or for some nefarious activities”.

Meanwhile, Rahul who is visiting his parliamentary constituency, also spoke about the attack on his office in Wayanad. Calling it unfortunate, he pointed out that it is not his office, it belongs to the people of Wayanad. “It is silly,” he remarked.

On June 24, Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the youth wing of CPI(M), took out a march and vandalised Rahul Gandhi’s office in Wayanad. They were protesting against Rahul for allegedly not interfering in the Supreme Court order on the eco-sensitive zone (ESZ). But, Rahul brushed off the incident stating that they are children who acted irresponsibly and he has no hostility towards them.
