PM Modi to address nation at 8 pm today


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Thursday (August 8) at 8 pm, the Prime Minister Office’s (PMO) said. The official PMO twitter handle said that Modi will address the nation at 8 pm, but there was no mention about the medium through which he will address the nation.

During the address, he is expected to explain the Central Government’s move on abrogating the article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and reorganising the State into two Union Territories.

On Thursday, the parliament approved a resolution on stripping the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir under article 370 of the Constitution, apart from clearing a bill to split the state into two union territory.

The last time Prime Minister addressed the nation was on March 27 when the Model Code of Conduct because of Lok Sabha elections were in place. During the time, he addressed the nation to announce that India had demonstrated anti-satellite missile (A- Sat) capability by shooting down a live satellite.

Earlier in the day, All India Radio (AIR) tweeted saying that PM Narendra Modi will address the nation by at 4 pm. The All India Radio’s tweet was retweeted by the Press Information Bureau. However, within minutes, the tweet was deleted.
