K Sivan confident of perfect soft landing of Chandrayaan-2

The clock is ticking, and the D-day has arrived for India and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

In a telephonic interview to the Puthiya Thalaimurai, sister concern of The Federal, ISRO chairman K Sivan talks about the last stage of Chandrayaan 2 mission, wherein lander module will make a soft landing on the moon’s surface near the south pole early on Saturday (September 7).

How are the preparatory works going on?

It is going very well. All the parameters are normal, it is being continuously monitored and we are going as per our plan. Final steps are over. Everyone is saying it is the D-day and are expecting good results. Everything is going great and we are confident that we will land properly.

There are high hopes about the last 15 minutes. What steps have been made?

Earlier itself, we have planned and made all the necessary arrangements. All the parameters have been set already, we need not worry much. There are no special arrangements now. We are confident. The necessary tests were completed. No mistakes will happen and we are confident.

Landing on the moon is a very big step. It is a proud moment for India. How is this milestone seen?

The place we are landing is the new place that no one has chosen. No one in the world would have expected this spot we have chosen for landing. This is the most expected event, the whole world is eagerly waiting for us to land and everyone is monitoring India’s move on the space.

The Chandrayaan 2 spacecraft will be the first Indian expedition to carry out a soft landing on the lunar surface. This mission will make India the fourth country after the US, Russia, and China to conduct a soft landing on the moon.
