Dalit man’s murder in Hyderabad: Worst crime in Islam, says Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has condemned the suspected honour killing of a Dalit man by the family of his Muslim wife in Hyderabad, calling it as “the worst crime in Islam”.

B Nagaraju, 25, was beaten and stabbed to death by his wife’s brother and an accomplice in the middle of a busy Hyderabad street earlier this week. The deceased’s family alleged that he was killed because the woman’s family was opposed to their inter-faith marriage.

Owaisi condemns vested interests

Hyderabad MP Owaisi said the accused were swiftly arrested but certain parties with vested interests are trying to give the incident a “different colour”. “The murder of Nagaraju in Hyderabad is against Islam. The girl married him of her own will and the law upholds this. Her brother had no right to kill her husband. It is a criminal act and the worst crime as per Islam,” he said at a rally, adding that the accused should be punished.

While talking about communal violence incidents in Jahangirpuri and Khargone, he said, “I want to say that whichever religious procession is taken out, there should be high resolution CCTV put up on the mosque and whenever there is a procession moving, then it should be live telecast on Facebook so that the world should know who is throwing stones.”

Murder on a busy street

Nagaraju was murdered on Wednesday evening, when he was travelling on a motorbike with his wife. He was stopped at Saroornagar by his wife’s brother and his accomplice on the road and attacked in full public view with an iron rod before being stabbed with a knife, police said. He died on the spot.

On Thursday, Hyderabad’s Saroornagar police arrested two relatives of Ashrin Sulthana alias Pallavi for their involvement in the murder of Nagaraju.
