I-T officials conduct searches at 50 locations, MP CM’s aide under scanner

The income tax department on April 7 conducted raids at the residence and other premises of Praveen Kakkad, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s officer on special duty (OSD), sources said. I-T officials are said to have conducted searches at 50 locations, including Bhopal, Indore, Goa and 35 locations in Delhi involving more than 300 I-T officials.

UP’s joint opposition tears into BJP, Cong at Deoband rally

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, Samajwadi  Party chief Akhileh Yadav and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Ajit Singh held a joint rally in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh on April 7. The joint opposition lashed out both the BJP and the Congress. Mayawati’s speech, where “she appealed to Muslim voters to vote for the BSP-SP alliance and not for the Congress, which cannot fight the BJP” has come under the scanner of the EC.

Bidding process for Jet Airways likely to begin from today

The bidding process for stake sale in the cash-starved Jet Airways is likely to commence from April 8 as the bid document is still to be given a final shape, a source said. The SBI-led consortium of 26 lenders now has the management control of the full-service carrier under a debt-recast plan. The last date for submission of the bids, which was April 9 earlier, is also likely to be extended by a day to April 10.

Militants, security forces exchange brief fire in J&K’s Pulwama

A brief exchange of firing took place between militants and security forces on April 7 in the Tral area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, army officials said. No casualties were reported.

Political ad spend crosses ₹10 crore on Facebook

According to Facebook’s Ad Library Report, there were 51,810 political ads with a total spending of more than ₹10.32 crore between February and March 30 this year, with a major chunk coming in from BJP and its supporters. Till the previous week (ending March 23), the number of such ads was 41,974, while the total spending was ₹8.58 crore. Facebook said these ads were related to politics and issues of national importance.

IPL: RCB suffers sixth straight defeat

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) woeful run this IPL continued as the Virat Kohli-led side suffered its sixth straight defeat on April 7. Royal Challengers Bangalore made 149 for eight but could not defend the total with Delhi Capitals winning by four wickets.
