11 Karnataka coalition MLAs quit, BJP waiting in the wings

In a big jolt to the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka, senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy announced he had submitted his resignation as legislator on Saturday (July 6). Seven other Congress MLAs and three JD(S) MLAs, including former party president H Vishwanath, have also quit. Of the total 11, Ramesh Jharkiholi and Anand Singh had submitted their resignations on July 1. The rest submitted their resignations on Saturday.

Criminal gangs infiltrate trade across India, Pakistan border

In its latest and largest ever drug haul, the Department of Customs seized 532 kg of suspected heroin worth ₹2,700 crores, on June 30 which was smuggled into India from Pakistan in a truck through the trade route via Attari border. The consignment of heroin and another 52 kg of suspected mixed narcotics was concealed under hundreds of bags of rock salt inside the Pakistani truck which arrived at Attari through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) two days before its interception.

AIADMK to send Mohammed John, N Chandrasekaran to Rajya Sabha

AIADMK has announced former Tamil Nadu minister A Mohammed John and party’s Mettur secretary N Chandrasekaran as its candidates for the July 18 Rajya Sabha elections from the state. The announcement comes almost a week after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) announced LPF general secretary M Shanmugam and advocate C Wilson as its candidates for the six Upper House seats that will be up for polls from the state. Both the DMK and AIADMK have given one seat each to their allies, MDMK and PMK respectively.
