Karnataka crisis: SC to pronounce verdict tomorrow at 10:30 am
The Supreme Court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on the Karnataka crisis on Wednesday (July 16) at 10:30 AM. This was declared by the bench hearing the case after counsels representing the rebel MLAs, the Speaker and the Chief Minister Kumaraswamy made their submissions. With the congress-JD(S) government scheduled to face a trust vote on Thursday, the judgment of the Apex Court is crucial.
14 deported TN terror suspects wanted to wage war against India
The 14 men from Tamil Nadu who were arrested and deported from the United Arab Emirates, on charges of raising funds to wage war against India had reportedly sent lakhs of rupees to form a terror module in Tamil Nadu. According to the FIR, a group of pro-ISIS and al-Qaida organisation called Wahdat-e-Islami, Jamaat Jamaat Wahadat-ui-islam-al Jihadiyah, Jihadist Islamic Unit and Ansarullah have been formed to establish Islamic rule in India by resorting to jihad.
10 killed, over 40 feared trapped as Mumbai building collapses
A decrepit building about 100 years old collapsed on Tuesday in south Mumbais congested Dongri locality, killing at least 10 people, eight injured and trapping more than 40 people under the debris, once again exposing the creaking infrastructure of India’s largest city. The four-storey residential building, in a maze of byzantine lanes and houses clustered closely together, came down shortly before noon, civic officials said.
Postal exams cancelled, will be held in regional languages: Govt
The government on Tuesday (July 16) cancelled the postal exam for recruitment of postmen and other posts in the postal department, following vociferous protests by the AIADMK and DMK in the Rajya Sabha demanding that the test be held in Tamil too. Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced that the exams which were conducted on Sunday would stand cancelled and be conducted in regional languages, including in Tamil.

World hunger worsens: one in nine people do not have enough to eat
One in every nine people in the world do not have enough to eat. About 82 crore people across the world suffered from hunger last year, according to The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report released by the United Nations on Monday (July 16). Around 19 crore or 23 per cent of the undernourished people across the globe are in India, according to Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) 2018 estimates.
World Bank clears ₹1700 crore to rebuilding Kerala
As a part of an initiative to rebuild Kerala, which suffered massive losses after the floods that hit the state in 2018, the World Bank has granted a loan of ₹1700 crore to the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government under the ‘Resilient Kerala Initiative’ (RKI). This will be a long-term plan for the state’s development. In August 2018, Kerala was devastated with the worst deluge that the state saw in 100 years. The deadly floods claimed over 400 lives and destroyed property worth hundreds of crores. Almost 5.4 million people were affected and around 1.4 million were displaced.
Former Samajwadi MP Neeraj Shekhar joins BJP
Neeraj Shekhar, the son of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, who resigned as the member of Rajya Sabha on Monday (July 15), met PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday (July 16) morning and joined the BJP in the evening in New Delhi. Shekhar, who is was nominated MP, has been in bitter terms with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Neeraj, has entered the Lok Sabha in 2008 from Ballia – his father’s traditional seat – which had fallen vacant after the demise of India’s eighth PM.
Rebel K’taka MLA Roshan Baig detained by SIT sleuths in IMA scam
The Special Investigation Team on Monday (July 15) night detained Karnataka MLA Roshan Baig, one of the accused in the I Monetary Advisory (IMA) fund scam that cheated thousands of customers. The development came hours after IMA founder Mansoor Khan, who went absconding last month, released a video saying he would return to India within 24 hours. Khan accused Baig of having borrowed ₹400 crore and not paying it back.
Kamal, Rahman to collaborate after 19 years
Fans of AR Rahman and Kamal Haasan woke up to a surprise on Tuesday morning after the 52-year-old musician tweeted that he will be collaborating with the actor. The Oscar winning music director will be working with the sixty-four-year-old actor, 19 years after their last project ‘Thenali’ in 2000. Rahman took to Twitter to make the announcement that he will be working with the Padma Bhushan winner for an upcoming magnum opus, ‘Thalaivan Irukkindran’ a film by Lyca Productions and Raaj Kamal Films International.
