COVID-19: SP Balasubrahmanyam's health worsens, singer on life support

Popular singer SP Balasubrahmanyam's health condition has deteriorated and he has been put on life support, said a medical bulletin on Friday. The 74-year-old singer was admitted to Chennai's MGM healthcare on August 5 after he tested positive for the coronavirus.


Popular singer SP Balasubrahmanyam’s health condition has deteriorated and he has been put on life support, said a medical bulletin on Friday (August 14). The 74-year-old singer was admitted to Chennai’s MGM healthcare on August 5 after he tested positive for the coronavirus.

“There has been a setback in the health of Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam who had been admitted at MGM healthcare for symptoms of COVID since 5th August 2020. In a late night development on August 13, 2020 his condition has deteriorated,” said a hospital bulletin on Friday.

“And based on the advice of the expert medical team attending to him, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and he is on life support and his condition remains critical,” it said.

The hospital said Mr. Balasubrahmanyam is currently under observation by the team and experts from critical care and his haemodynamic and clinical parameters are being closely monitored.”

The singer had on August 5 announced on Facebook that he had tested positive for COVID-19. In a video message, he had even said he’d be discharged in a few days.

“I’m perfectly alright, except the cold and fever; even fever has subsided. In a few days, I’ll be discharged and I’ll be home,” he had said on August 5.
