In Bihar, 60-ft-long bridge stolen in just three days

A 60-feet-long abandoned bridge was stolen in the Bikramganj subdivision area of Rohtas district of Bihar on Friday (April 8).

Police said the thieves posed as officials of the irrigation department to convince locals that it was a part of the government work. They brought with them JCBs, pickup vans and gas cutters to cut off an entire bridge in just three days.

Even the local departmental officials could not sense anything wrong as they too contributed to the daylight heist.

Arshad Kamal Shamshi, who is an engineer with the irrigation department said they came to know from the village folks that some men, posing as officials, came and dismantled the entire iron structure.

Shamshi said they have lodged a complaint with the Nasriganj police station.

The iron bridge was built over the Ara canal in Amiyavar in around 1972.

Meanwhile, social media was abuzz with the daylight robbery, one of its kind where an entire bridge goes missing. Twiterrati expressed shock at the development and asked the government why it could not detect such an obvious case of robbery.
