BigB slammed for 'sexism' after 'fan' Gita Gopinath's KBC post

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan is facing backlash for making a "sexist" remark on his TV quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati while asking a question about International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief Economist Gita Gopinath.

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan is facing backlash for making a “sexist” remark on his TV quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati while asking a question about International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief Economist Gita Gopinath.

Calling herself a “huge fan of BigB”, Gopinath tweeted the video on Friday, in which a photo of hers was displayed on the screen as the actor asked a contestant, “The economist seen in this image has been the chief economist of which organisation since 2019?”

“Her face is so beautiful that no one can relate her to economy,” Senior Bachchan went on to say before listing out four answering options for the question.

An elated Gopinath called the video special and addressed Sr. Bachchan as the “greatest of all time”. She said, “I don’t think I will ever get over this.”

To this, the actor replied saying that he meant every word he said about her on the show: “Said in utmost earnestness”.

However, many Twitter users called out the actor for alleged sexist remark.

Indian-American Gita Gopinath had joined as the chief economist of IMF in 2019, becoming the first woman to occupy the top position. She was the 11th chief economist at the global lender and second Indian to hold the post after former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan.

Before joining IMF, Gopinath was the chief economic adviser to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
