Hindu Mahasabha UP chief shot dead in Lucknow during morning walk

Antarrashtriya Hindu Mahasabha Uttar Pradesh chief was shot dead in Lucknow’s Hazratganj by unknown assailants on Sunday (Februray 2) when he was out on a morning walk, police said.

A police official said Ranjeet Bachchan, 40, was killed in an area which falls under the jurisdiction of the Hazratganj police station.

He said the killing prima facie appears to be a fallout of some family dispute, but the police are investigating all possible angles.

Ranjit Bachchan’s brother also suffered bullet injuries in the firing and has been rushed to the trauma centre.

Earlier, Ranjit was a member of Samajwadi Party and was in close knits with former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

This is second such incident where a right-wing Hindu leader in the state capital has been shot. Last year in October, Kamlesh Tewari, the national president of the Hindu Samaj Party, was killed at his residence.
