68-yr-old man from Philippines dies of COVID-19 in Mumbai hospital


A 68-year-old man, a citizen of the Philippines, died of coronavirus in a private hospital in Mumbai on Sunday (March 22) night, said the health department of the Greater Mumbai corporation.

Announcing the death on Monday, the corporation said the patient had first tested positive for coronavirus and then negative.

“He was a case of diabetes mellitus and asthma and was admitted on March 13 with symptoms. He had developed acute renal failure and respiratory distress,” a release by the corporation said.

This is Maharashtra’s third case of death. The state’s share of cases rose to 89 on Monday after 15 new cases of coronavirus were reported.

The state has announced a lockdown till March 31 as part of the Centre’s order to shut communication services and ask people to stay indoors in at least 80 districts across the state.
