5 passengers run over by Konark Express after they got off another train


In a tragic accident, five people lost their lives when they were run over by the Bhubaneswar-CST Mumbai Konark Express in the area around Srikakulam district on Monday (April 12) evening.

According to media reports, a few persons travelling in the train 12515 Coimbatore-Silcher Express stopped the train on the Visakhapatnam-Palasa mainline between Sigadam and Chipurupalli and alighted. As they were crossing the tracks, they were hit by the Konark Express.

The five bodies were taken to Srikakulam Road station, where an ambulance was arranged by the railway authorities to take the bodies to the government hospital.

A preliminary investigation was ordered by the Srikakulam collector and he asked medical officers, RDO and others to rush to the accident spot. The railway police from Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Road also reached the spot.
