₹5 cr cash seized in raids against Karnataka’s ex-deputy CM Parameshwara

The income tax department found 5 crore cash after they raided properties linked to former Karnataka deputy chief minister G Parameshwara and others, officials said on Friday (October 11).

The search operations are being conducted in 25 other locations in Bengaluru and Tumakuru.

The I-T sleuths carried out raids across Karnataka targeting education institutions owned by political leaders, especially from Congress party. According to reports, other than raiding the office, residence and institutions belonging to Parameshwara, the taxmen also searched the residence of his brother G Shivaprasad and personal assistant Ramesh.

The raids are in connection with a multi-crore tax evasion case linked to the NEET exams, officials said.

Talking to reporters on Thursday (October 11), Parameshwara said, “Let them search, it is their duty. If there are concealments or irregularities, they will make it public. I don’t have a problem if they raid. Let them examine everything. We will abide by their suggestions.”

Former Karnataka Chief Miniter Siddaramaiah on Thursday said the raids were “politically motivated”.
