World Cup 2019: India lose to England after a sloppy chase

India suffers another huge blow as Rohit Sharma was caught behind by Jos Buttler right after he hit a century. Earlier, skipper Virat Kohli was picked by Liam Plunkett at 66 and KL Rahul was dismissed for a duck.

Chris Woakes picked the crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma at 102 (109) after he dismissed KL Rahul in the beginning. Liam Plunkett dismissed Virat Kohli at 66, breaking a much-needed 138-run partnership between him and Rohit.

England had set India a target of 338 runs after Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket spell helped India restrict the hosts to a below-350 total.

Shami dismissed Woakes for six runs and captain Eoin Morgan for 1. He also sent back Jos Buttler, Joe Root and the centurion Jonny Bairstow.

Bairstow scored a quick 111, and along with Jason Roy, built a 160-run partnership that formed the base for England’s total. However, soon after his century, he was caught off Shami by Rishabh Pant.

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav picked one wicket each as Bumrah bowled a tight spell, giving 44 runs off 10 overs in a high scoring match.

Despite quick falling of wickets in the last few overs, England was in no mood to relent and showered boundaries all around the Edgbaston stadium at Birmingham.

England had won the toss and chosen to bat first.
