The body of Cafe Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha, who went missing, was found on Wednesday (July 31) in the Netravati river in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka after 36 hours of intense search, officials said.

Teams of National Disaster Response Force, Coast Guard, Home Guard, fire services, and coastal police had scoured the waters under a bridge across the swollen Nethravathi river, where the 60-year old was reportedly last seen, to trace the coffee tycoon. The body had washed ashore near Ullal and was fished out by local fishermen.

Mangalore Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said that the body has been kept at Wenlock Hospital for further formalities.

According to the Kannada newspaper Vijaya Vani, the bridge is not equipped with CCTV cameras and proper street lights. In the past five years, approximately 8-10 people have committed suicide from the bridge. Locals are demanding better street light facilities for safety as the spot has witnessed other crimes too.
