Global death toll due to coronavirus pandemic crosses 6,000

Total deaths due to the coronavirus pandemic crossed 6,000 on Sunday with a spike in casualties in Spain, according to an AFP tally compiled from official sources. On Sunday, 2,000 fresh cases of COVID-19 and over a hundred deaths were reported over the last 24 hours in Spain, the second-most affected country in Europe.


Total deaths due to the coronavirus pandemic crossed 6,000 on Sunday (March 15) with a spike in casualties in Spain, according to an AFP tally compiled from official sources.

On Sunday, Spain alone reported 2,000 fresh cases of COVID-19 with over a hundred deaths over the last 24 hours as it continued to be the second-most affected country in Europe after Italy, which has so far reported 1,907 deaths.

The total number of cases in Spain now stand at 7,753, according to news agency PTI, and it total deaths at 288.

The Spanish government has already imposed a near-total nationwide lockdown, banning people from leaving home except to go to work, get medical care or buy food.

Meanwhile, the worldwide death toll rose to 6,036, with 159,844 infections on Sunday as China remained the most-affected country with 3,199 deaths.
