2 cops wounded in shooting during Fourth of July festival in Philadelphia

Two policemen have been injured in a shooting incident during a July Fourth celebration in Philadelphia, US, reports said.

At least six persons were killed and over 30 injured in a similar incident in Chicago on Monday, when a 22-year-old gunman sprayed bullets from atop a rooftop.

According to reports, the two officers injured in the Philadelphia incident are a highway patrol officer who suffered a graze wound to the head and a Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy who had a gunshot wound on the shoulder.

The injured were rushed to the Jefferson University Hospital and their condition is stated to be stable.

It is yet to be known if any civilians were injured in the shooting although visuals of the incident on social media showed people running amok along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the venue for fireworks celebrations and a July Fourth concert.

It is yet to be clear if police have arrested anyone involved in the incident.

Philadelphia police have advised citizens to avoid the area.
