World Blood Donor Day 2022: Recognising the act of solidarity that saves lives

June 14 is celebrated each year as World Blood Donor Day to create awareness about the necessity for safe and correct blood transfusion.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) initiated event is celebrated each year to support national blood transfusion services and blood donor organisations in taking forward their voluntary blood donor activities by way of extensive campaigning.

The day calls for action on part of the government health machinery to put in adequate efforts and resources to ensure blood availability to the needy.

It also aims to recognise the yeoman service given by donors of blood to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.

This year, the slogan for World Blood Donor Day is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”. The World Health Organisation (WHO) wants to emphasis on the contribution of voluntary blood donations in saving vital human lives and increasing solidarity within communities.
