Ayushmann, Vicky Kaushal share National Award for best actor

The winners of the prestigious national film awards for 2019 was announced on Friday (August 9) as jury members submitted their report to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar with their final recommendations in various categories.

This is the 66th year of film awards. Following are the list award winners. Adhitya Dhar bagged best director award for Uri and the best feature film award went for Ellaru (Kannada).

Swanand Kirkire for Cumbhak (Marati) gets best supporting actor, while Surekha Sikri gets best supporting actress for Badhaai Ho (Hindi) and best popular film.

Best actor was shared by Ayushmann Khuranna for Andhadhun (Hindi) and Vicky Kaushal for Uri (Hindi) and best actress was bagged by Keerthy Suresh for Mahanati (Telugu).

Apart from the above, KGF Chapter I (Kannada) got best action direction and best special effects, best choreography was given to Padmaavat for the song ‘Ghumar’. Best film on environment issues was given to Paani (Marathi). Best film on social issues was bagged by Padman (Hindi).

Best children’s film was Sarkari Area Prathamika Shaale Kasaragod (Kannada).

Best film in Hindi went to Andhadhun, Mahanati in Telugu, Sudani from Nigeria in Malayalam. Best music direction for Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Padmaavat. Best music direction (background score) was bagged by Uri and the film also got best sound design.

Arijit Singh won best male playback singer for Bhinte Dhil and Bindu for Mayavi Manave in best female playback singer.

Every year the winners of the awards are announced in April and the presentation ceremony is held on May 3, which is when India’s first feature film is said to have its theatrical release in 1913. However, in April the ministry announced that the National Film Awards will be declared after the Lok Sabha elections.
