Fans of AR Rahman and Kamal Haasan woke up to a surprise on Tuesday morning after the 52-year-old musician tweeted that he will be collaborating with the actor. The Oscar winning music director will be working with the sixty-four-year-old actor, 19 years after their last project ‘Thenali’ in 2000.

Rahman took to Twitter to make the announcement that he will be working with the Padma Bhushan winner for an upcoming magnum opus, ‘Thalaivan Irukkindran’ a film by Lyca Productions and Raaj Kamal Films International.

AR Rahman in his Twitter page shared a photo and said, “Happy and excited to collaborate with the one and only @ikamalhaasan himself on a magnum opus… Watch this space for more @RKFI @lycaproductions #RKFI #lycaproductions.”

Minutes after the music director’s tweet, Kamal replied and thanked Rahman. “Thanks ARR for strengthening the team with your participation. Very few projects feel good & right even as we develop it. ‘Thalaivan Irukkindraan’ is one such. Your level of excitement for the project is very contagious. Let me pass it on to the rest of our crew @RKFI @LycaProductions,” he said.

In 2017, when Indian-2 was announced, fans were excited that the combo of director Shankar, Kamal and Rahman will come together after 21 years, after the prequel of ‘Indian’ movie which was released in 1996. But fans were left heart-broken when director Shankar announced that Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music for the sequel.

During an interview to a media website, Rahman said that Kamal insisted for him (AR Rahman) to compose music. But in the end Shankar chose Anirudh. Rahman also revealed that 2.0 was really exhausting. “So maybe Shankar thought that I shouldn’t overwork,” he said.
