Haryana government to reopen schools next month in phased manner

Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal on Wednesday said the state government will reopen schools next month in a phased manner.


Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal on Wednesday (June 3) said the state government will reopen schools next month in a phased manner.

The state government will also take feedback from the stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and experts, on whether to conduct classes in two shifts in order to maintain social distancing.

The state education minister was quoted as saying that in the first phase, classes 10-12 will begin in July 2020, followed by classes 6-9, and in the last phase, primary classes 1-5 will begin. The classes for colleges and universities will begin in August.

All educational institutions in Haryana were closed after the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed in the month of March.

Initially, the government will be conducting a demo in a few schools to prepare and strengthen the plan.

Schools will operate with a 50 percent strength in classrooms. In a class of 30 students, 15 students will come in the morning and the rest of the students can come in the evening or on alternate days, said the minister.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of School Education, Haryana has instructed the district education officers to constitute committees to discuss the issue of reopening schools with all stakeholders and seek their feedback. The report by the directorate will be submitted by June 7.

The state education minister had chaired a meeting on June 2 to discuss the reopening of schools and colleges. The education minister ,along with other senior officials of his department, worked out a plan for reopening classes in a phased manner. All teachers, parents, and students will be informed about the updates on the dates and timings soon.
