Haryana blames Delhi for COVID-19 spread, seals border

With rising number of coronavirus cases in Haryana being traced to the national capital, the state is all set to tighten its borders with Delhi.

Starting Tuesday (April 28), people travelling between Delhi and Haryana’s satellite cities —Gurgaon and Faridabad, will require passes from the government. The rules will not spare health care workers, media employees and other essential services providers, NDTV reported.

Earlier today, Haryana Minister Anil Vij urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to make staying arrangements for Haryana residents who work in the national capital as their frequent movement might increase the risk of COVID-19 spread in the state.

He asked the government not to issue passes for those who work in Delhi and stay in Haryana, calling them “corona-carriers”.

“I appeal to Delhi Chief Minister that stay arrangements for people who work in Delhi should be made in the national capital itself. They should not be issued passes to travel to Haryana as this is increasing COVID-19 cases here. Many who work in Delhi and stay in Haryana are corona-carriers,” Vij said as quoted by ANI.

He also blamed Kejriwal for allowing the Tablighi Jamaat followers to travel to Haryana, which led to a rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the state.

As on Sunday evening, Haryana reported seven new COVID-19 positive cases, pushing the state’s total to 294, according to state health department. Haryana has a recovery rate of 67.22 per cent, fatality rate of 1.01 per cent.
