Family reports 23 COVID-19 cases, turns Bihar's Siwan district into hotspot


Bihar’s Siwan district has become a prominent COVID-19 hotspot in the state due to one family which alone has reported 23 cases, almost one third of the state’s total (60) coronavirus cases.

As reported by NDTV, it all started with a member of the family, who returned from Oman to his village Panjwar in Siwan on March 16. He had reportedly travelled across the district, before he tested positive for COVID-19 on April 4.

His family of 22, who did not show any symptoms earlier tested positive later. While four in the family have recovered so far, they will be kept in quarantine for two more weeks, the report said. Meanwhile, the test results of 10 others in the family are awaited.

Siwan district which is currently the hub of COVID-19 in Bihar, is under strict government vigilance.

The district which has reported at least 31 cases so far has been sealed to contain the infection.

On Friday (April 10), two others in the village – a 28-year-old man and a 10-year-old girl who had come in contact with the family – tested positive, the state health department said.

Bihar’s Director-General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey said the borders of villages from which the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases have come have been sealed and there is strict monitoring by district officials, said a The Hindu report.
