War of words over Supriya Shrinate's Instagram post on Kangana Ranaut

Every woman deserves to be treated with dignity, says Ranaut; 'it wasn't me', claims Shrinate

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Monday (March 25) triggered a row with an Instagram post on Kangana Ranaut, only to later say it was not her at all.
The post, which used Kangana's image with an objectionable caption, was subsequently deleted.
Actor Kangana Ranaut, BJP candidate for Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, hit back at Shrinate, saying she has played a plethora of characters roles in films, and deserves dignity like every other woman.
"Dear Supriya ji In the last 20 years of my career as an artist I have played all kinds of women. From a naive girl in Queen to a seductive spy in Dhaakad, from a goddess in Manikarnika to a demon in Chandramukhi, from a prostitute in Rajjo to a revolutionary leader in Thalaivii," Ranaut said in a post on X.
"We must free our daughters from the shackles of prejudices, we must rise above the curiosity about their body parts and above all we must refrain from using sex workers challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur... every woman deserves her dignity...," she added.
Shrinate clarifies
Shrinate, who heads the social media and digital platforms of Congress, tweeted later that as anyone who knows her would know, she would never say demeaning things about a woman.
"Someone who had access to my Meta accounts (FB and Insta) posted an absolutely disgusting and objectionable post, which has been taken down. Anyone who knows me will know I would never say that for a woman. However, a parody account that I have just discovered misusing my name is being run on Twitter which started the whole mischief, and is being reported," she said.
Shrinate criticised
BJP leaders and several others slammed Shrinate for her remark. Shehzad Poonawalla, Khushbu Sundar and Amit Malviya were among those who strongly criticised Shrinate for her post.
Congress leader Rashid Alvi said: "Making such statement against any woman is unfortunate and unacceptable. If she (Supriya Shrinate) has said that someone had access and made that post, then the Government of India should investigate this. Whoever has made this comment, action should be taken against them..."
